Korovuto Village Visit
The boys and dads got a taste of tradiitonal Fiji when they guests of the Korovuto community, presided over by a chief. Unfortunately the chief was too ill and a, little too old to attend in person so his son did the honours in a kava ceremony, Most of the boys had a taste of Fiji's national beverage experiencing a minor numbness of hte tongue and lips. The women of the Korovuto village took the boys and dads on guided tour and introduced them to kindergarten kids and their teachers. With limited power and anxious to save what money they have, the villagers do most of their cooking outdoors. Despite the wandering livestock and the pigstys, the Newport visitors were very impressed by the pride the villagers took in the appearance of their homes and gardens. We found a devout Christian community with a rich cultural heritage.
